Is Winning Everything?

I use a lot of sports analogies in my rehearsals (here's one reason why). "Winning is Everything" is not one of them.

Part of the reason for that is that I believe strongly in the educational component of rehearsals (you can read more about that -- and how to do it -- in my eBook The Choir in Modern Worship). I also believe that all my work is done in rehearsals so that the ensemble can shine when it is go time. But I'm a cultural observer, and I know that these days a great number of people simply don't want to work that hard. They want to be "stars" without putting in the work (see more on that...and read about magic tricks...here).

So, to paraphrase Sean Connery here, if you can't put in the time, your "performance" will be a crime...
